After I had decided to start my bible journaling, I took a look around my home and found some simple supplies. I first had to find a Bible to use. I have a Bible I bought many years ago and used at church. However, when I bought my iPad, I stopped taking it to church as I had purchased the Olive Tree Bible app. So I took up my Bible with the aim of doing my journaling. I did a lot of meditation and praying about this journey I was about to embark on. After much thought, I felt led to journal in my daughter’s Bible. One of the prime reasons is that I would like her to constantly want to go and utilise it in the future for her Bible study. My daughter also uses the olive tree for her bible. As a result, her physical Bible was on the shelf gathering dust. We all have lots of Bibles in our home that we don’t use anymore.
Here are a few of the supplies that have worked for me:
- Regular Bible (my daughter’s bible)
- Paper or Notebook
- Colouring pencils
- Wax crayon
- Highlighters
- Glue sticks
- Gel pens
- Page protector (makes using a hard piece of cardboard cut to the size of your bible)
- Water paint set
- Carbon paper
- A printer or access to one would be an asset. You don’t need to have one.
- First 5 bible study Apps (Just download the app to your phone or tablet and set your study time.)

As I looked around our local office supplies stores, I found small bottles of glitter glues, acrylic paints, double-sided tape, and invisible tapes at reasonable prices, so I just had to add them to my collections. I got scrap paper from the local printery. I used those pieces of paper and cardboard as tip-ins for my bible. I also collect tissue papers that I use to make washi tape.
After I started Bible journaling, I received a boost in supplies from the Flourish Journaling Conference that I had attended online. It was a kit developed by Amber Bolton of Inspire Bible and included:

- Flourish Sticker page
- Flourish clear stamp set
- 1 Tombow Dual Brush Pen
- Kaiser gel pen
- “Grow” phrase stickers
- 2 Washi tape samples
- 2 bow clippies
- 1 “design your own” bow clippie
- Embellishment pack of die cuts and tip-ins
- 1 Tulle Bow
- Canvas bag
- Access to special “Flourish” workshop by Amber Bolton

The second list is more of a wish list than a must-have. You may have noticed that I capitalise on the name “Supplies that are worth saving/asking for.” The reason being, those of us living in remote areas most times cannot gain access to these materials. However, most times we have families who periodically enquire from us if there is anything we need. For me, I can never think of anything to ask for off the bat. You can ask for one or two bible journaling supplies, as they are usually less than $10 USD.
Remember, if all else fails, a good old-fashioned pen, pencil, Bible, and Bible study guide will work. However, bible journaling puts an excitement and thrill of studying the bible.
